Tip of the week: Securing patient valuables

The loss or theft of patient valuables can have a decidedly negative effect on the credibility of the security department as well as the public relations of a hospital. Consider the following questions when including techniques designed to protect such property:

Are patient valuables logged in immediately?

Is there a "drop safe," or some other reliable means of securing patient valuables taken after normal business hours?

Are proper patients' valuables envelopes used?
