Federal contracts may reward physicians for EHR use
Physician Practice Advisor, May 2, 2007
The American Health Information Community (AHIC), a high-level Health and Human Services Department advisory group, has given preliminary approval to a recommendation that federal contracts with health plans and insurers include provisions to reward physicians for quality performance, which includes the use of certified electronic health records (EHR).
AHIC sent the recommendation back to its EHR Workgroup to refine the wording and is expected to give final approval to the proposal at its June 12 meeting. AHIC rejected another recommendation from the same workgroup that called for Medicare to pay physicians more for using EHRs.
