Cardiologists, orthopedic surgeons generate an average of more than $2.3 million each year
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, May 1, 2007
A new survey reveals that cardiologists and orthopedic surgeons generate the most in net revenue per year, among seven specialties surveyed.
The survey, conducted by Merritt, Hawkins and Associates, a physician search firm, polled 119 hospital CFOs on their physicians, cardiologists, and neurologists and the amount of net revenue they brought in from various affiliated facilities in one year.
Results include both inpatient and outpatient net revenues from such things as patient referrals, procedures, and tests performed in hospitals.
Revenues generated by one full-time physician included some of the following:
- Invasive cardiologist-$2.66 million
- Orthopedic surgeon-$2,31 million
- Neurosurgeon-$2.1 million
- Pediatrician-$698,000
- Ophthalmologist-$584,000
