HHS provides Web site on HIPAA privacy rule

Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, May 1, 2007

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released information on their latest Web site that will provide information on enforcement of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy rule on April 20, according to the HSS Web site.

To coincide with the HIPAA privacy rule's fourth anniversary, the new Web site gives consumers and healthcare providers information on HHS activities, results, and guidelines for enforcing the rule.

Additionally, the site provides information on consumers' rights to access their health information and consumers' control of how their personal information is used or disclosed.

The site offers consumers access to case studies by issue, such as lack of safeguards, and by covered entity, which readers may find helpful as well.
