Bill would provide grants, tax incentives for physician health IT

EHR Connection, April 30, 2007

A new bipartisan bill aims to help physicians offset the costs of implementing health IT in their practices. The National Health Information Incentive Act provides health IT grants, loans, and tax incentives, reports Healthcare IT News. The bill includes a $250,000 tax depreciation incentive for all physicians who want the technology and bonuses for reporting Medicare performance data. Offices with fewer than 10 physicians would be eligible for grants and loans. The bill combines two pieces of legislation that Democrats and Republicans introduced separately last year. The bipartisan nature of the new bill may boost its chances of passing, according to the report.
