ADHD education, care coordination well-suited for DM programs

Interest in providing disease management (DM) for children and adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is growing as health plans work to comply with a new HEDIS measure on the disorder and also begin to quantify ADHD's effect on productivity. Although few health plans and vendors currently offer ADHD as part of their stable of DM programs, experts say the industry will likely see some additional ADHD initiatives in the near future as plans seek to broaden their DM offerings. ADHD treatment involves patient and family education and behavioral modification as well as a pharmacy component.
