Tip of the week: Provide patient/parent education in maternity units
Healthcare Security Weekly, April 23, 2007
When it comes to security on maternity and newborn units, patient/parent education is key. Instruct patients/parents upon admittance to the unit on how to identify hospital staff, respond to an emergency, and communicate an emergency or threat to hospital staff.
Remind parents to never leave their babies unattended and instruct them to avoid giving their babies to anyone who is not wearing a properly verified employee identification badge.
