Treatment for septic shock

Long-Term Care Nursing Advisor, April 20, 2007

A resident with septicemia should be transferred to the hospital. Aggressive treatment, consisting of broad-spectrum intravenous antibiotic therapy, fluids, and oxygenation is required. In this situation, it is better to start treatment than to wait 72 hours for culture and sensitivity test results. Verify that the correct antibiotic is being used after blood culture reports are returned.
