Coding tip: Use correct fluoroscopic guidance codes
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, April 17, 2007
The fluoroscopic guidance codes 76003 and 76005 were deleted from the CPT manual as of December 2006.
The new fluoroscopic guidance codes you should use instead are:
- 77002- Needle placement
- 77003-Guidance and localization of needle or catheter tip for spine or paraspinous diagnostic or therapeutic injection procedures, such as epidural and transforaminal injections, facet injections, and nerve block pain management injections, etc.
Note that some payers do not reimburse for radiology codes-thus, the ASC would only receive reimbursement from payers who allow payment of radiology services (which Medicare does not reimburse).
Remember to append the -TC modifier (for the technical component only of the procedure) when billing fluoroscopy codes on ASC claims.
