Survey reveals most state Medicaid programs include P4P

Managed Care Weekly Advisor, April 18, 2007

The first nationwide survey of state Medicaid programs on pay-for-performance (P4P) practices reveals that over half of all programs provide financial incentives to healthcare providers for better quality care. The survey also found that almost 85% of states plan to have P4P programs within five years.

Significantly, 70% of existing Medicaid P4P programs operate in managed care or primary care case management environments. The study was published this week by the Commonwealth Fund and IPRO.
