Ask the expert: How can an HIM director use dashboards during EHR implementation? How about an IT director? A physician?
EHR Connection, April 16, 2007
EHRs present the challenge of an overwhelming amount of data that clinicians and administrators must understand and use to administer patient care. Dashboards--computer software that display important and relevant information onscreen at a quick glance--provide the means to use the EHR data for quick and enhanced access to that data. An IT director can leverage dashboards to monitor system performance, security, and utilization. In turn, this helps them improve IT service to the organization. A physician practice can leverage dashboards to monitor billing and collections. Also, they can use dashboards to quickly access data in their patients' health records.
