Tip of the week: Encourage flu shots for healthcare workers
Infection Control Monitor, April 13, 2007
One focus of Joint Commission surveyors in 2007 is on flu vaccines for healthcare professionals. In addition to promoting flu shots with your employee roster, make sure to talk to your licensed independent practitioners (LIP).
Standard IC.4.15, which took effect on January 1, requires hospitals to offer flu vaccine to regular staff members, LIPs, and volunteers, and to evaluate why workers refuse the vaccination. Be certain to track compliance so you can chart improvement from year to year, said Carol Shenold, RN, CIC, quality review manager at Vencor Hospital in Oklahoma City.
