CMS releases 74 measures for quality-reporting initiative
Physician Practice Advisor, April 11, 2007
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has posted detailed specifications for 74 measures to be included in the 2007 Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI).
The PQRI begins July 1, 2007, and will establish a financial incentive for physicians and other healthcare providers to participate in a quality reporting program. Physicians who successfully report data for the designated set of quality measures may earn a bonus payment, subject to a cap, of 1.5% of the total allowed charges for covered Medicare physician fee schedule services during the reporting period, which ends December 31, 2007.
The final list of measures includes 66 quality measures established under the Physician Voluntary Reporting Program (PQRI's predecessor that did not involve additional payments) plus eight quality measures established by the AQA alliance.
