Healthcare costs up, BlueCross profits down

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee saw a marked declined in profits for 2006, despite an increase in revenues from rising healthcare costs, according to an article in The Tennessean.

Covering more than 6 million people, BlueCross' income dropped 36% from 2005 to $112.6 million, and paid roughly $17 billion in claims in 2006.
