Research news: Wal-Mart partners with health plan, university on health-IT research center
EHR Connection, April 9, 2007
Wal-Mart, the University of Arkansas, and Blue Cross Blue Shield are teaming up to create a new research center to investigate ways of improving healthcare delivery through IT, reports CommwebNews.com. Wal-Mart is donating $1 million over five years to fund the new Center for Innovation in Health Care Logistics, which will be located at the University of Arkansas.
Besides the financial support, Wal-Mart brings its technological expertise to the table, which can help researchers identify best practices and innovations that will benefit healthcare procurement and delivery. Last December, Wal-Mart was one of seven large companies that launched a multi-million dollar coalition focused on providing employees with electronic PHRs.
