Hassling towards lab safety
Lab Safety Advisor, March 27, 2007
Last week we discussed the proper storage of chemicals. This week we are going to tell you about HassleMe, a unique website to remind employees-pester is more to the point-not only on chemical storage, but also on a variety of safety matters. You go to the site and enter what you want your employees to keep upper most in their minds regarding a safety issue. You tell the program how frequently you want the message to appear, and your employees will receive an email to keep them on track. This may sound silly, but think about it. Here is the opportunity to put a safety message into the computer and it will pop up at semi-unpredictable intervals. If you expect your employees to make changes, then you need to keep them focused on the issues at hand. Maybe you want them to take a mini-break when the message occurs. Perhaps you want to remind them to keep their lab coat closed at all times when in the lab. The possibilities are endless, and this is an interesting way to get the message across.
