Tip of the week: Clostridium difficile outbreak challenges housekeeping staff

Infection Control Monitor, April 6, 2007

Increased housekeeping efforts were among the strategies employed by Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, after a Clostridium difficile (C. diff.) outbreak in March. At least 21 patients tested positive for C. diff., including some who had the infection upon admission, according to the hospital.

Among the steps taken by Trillium to combat the illness, was to fine-tune the cleaning of patient rooms and areas where C. diff. might be present.
