Nursing home under fire after resident death
LTC Liability Monitor, April 3, 2007
A North Carolina nursing home faces $85,000 in fines for conditions that would cause immediate jeopardy to resident health and safety, reported The Charlotte Observer. The nursing home is under fire after a resident suffocated when she slipped between her bed rail and the mattress. The facility had two previous incidents with that resident where she slipped between the rails-the first time, she got stuck, and the second time, she fell through. The Department of Health and Human Services said the facility was not following safety mandates and the rails were used as a restraint and not prescribed by the resident's physician, reported The Charlotte Observer.
