Medicare fraud on wheels
LTC Liability Monitor, April 3, 2007
Two women are sitting behind bars after their arrest last week for allegedly scamming millions of dollars from Medicare, reported the Fort Bend Herald and Texas Coaster. The women are charged with healthcare fraud, wire fraud, receiving or paying kickbacks, and money laundering. They are accused of billing Medicare for more expensive motorized wheelchairs when lesser priced ones were sent to the customer. The women billed Medicare $3.4 million, but they only incurred expenses for $1.4 million. They face five to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $250,000, reported the Fort Bend Herald and Texas Coaster.
