Texas considers public reporting of HAIs

Infection Control Monitor, March 30, 2007

Add Texas to the list of states looking to require hospitals to publicly report healthcare-associated infection (HAI) rates.

Texas is close to joining 14 other states that require hospitals to disclose HAI rates, reported the Houston Chronicle. Legislators have filed several bills that would require hospitals to collect infection data and report it so that consumers can compare the results.

The Texas Hospital Association supports a bill filed by Rep. Dianne Delisi, Public Health Committee chairman, that calls for making infection data available to the public as soon as June 2008, the newspaper reported.
