Tip of the week: Immunizing children against infectious diseases
Infection Control Monitor, March 30, 2007
When children come to Denver Health and Hospital Authority's community health services with the sniffles, they leave with not only the standard treatment for a respiratory infection, but also protection against a number of far more serious infectious diseases.
Officials at this organization have learned that for their patients, the bulk of whom are low-income and often transient, a sick visit may be the only time some of these children make it to the doctor. Therefore, these visits are critical opportunities to keep them up to date on immunizations, says Paul Melinkovich, MD, director of community health services at Denver Health.
