Nursing home administrators take inmates off duty

LTC Liability Monitor, March 27, 2007

Jail inmates are off work detail at a New Hampshire nursing home for the second time in two years, reported The Boston Globe. County officials have said the free labor is safe-and irreplaceable-as they struggle to upgrade the aging nursing home after it first failed an inspection by the state, then by the state fire marshal. But a comment from a retired police officer that he may start bringing a gun with him when he visits his mother in the nursing home sparked a flurry of negative publicity. Last Wednesday, administrators put a temporary halt on the inmate work, reported the Globe.
