Former security officer injured in Iraq has job waiting for him

Healthcare Security Weekly, March 26, 2007

A former part-time security officer at Lake Forest Hospital in Lake Forest, IL has a full-time job waiting for him at the facility when he is fully recovered from head injuries he received in Iraq, reported the Lake County News-Sun.

Sgt. Mike Kempski, 26, left his job at the hospital in July 2005 to serve in Iraq. He is now recovering at a hospital at Fort Gordon, GA. from head injuries he received when bombs exploded around his Humvee in January. "When he gets back, which we hope is soon, we'll have a full-time job for him," his former boss, Ronald Cundiff, the hospital's director of safety, security, and telecommunications, told the newspaper.

While Kempski was in Iraq, his friends at the hospital sent him and his unit food packages regularly. On March 19, the Illinois Employer Support of the Guard & Reserve (ESGR) honored the hospital with a Seven Seals Award for the care and concern it has given to its employees serving in the military.
