Bank of America to help repay medical student loans
Physician Practice Advisor, March 21, 2007
Bank of America will donate $5 million to help repay the medical school loans of primary care physicians who agree to practice in community health centers in Eastern Massachusetts, according to a report in the Boston Globe.
The program will help pay up to $25,000 toward medical debt each year for three years for medical students, residents, and physicians currently practicing in health centers, provided they agree to practice primary care for at least two years in one of 23 community health centers or for Boston Health Care for the Homeless.
Many community health centers are experiencing a shortage of primary care doctors and are bracing for additional patients who will have coverage for primary care services under the state's new universal health insurance law.
