New hospitals have designs on women

Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, March 16, 2007

Two hospitals under construction in metropolitan Detroit exemplify a growing trend in healthcare: catering to women.

Women are the leading decision-makers when it comes to healthcare, according to the Michigan Business Review. That's why Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital and St. John Hospital-both under construction and expected to be complete in 2008-are working to create hospitals that not only appeal to women's senses, but meet their needs as well.

West Bloomfield Hospital will offer massages and wellness classes, better tasting food, and rooms designed with feng shui. St. John Hospital will devote its entire third floor to women, offering private rooms for new moms and their children.

Giving women positive experiences at St. John Hospital will make them more likely to return to the hospital when their children and other family members need care, says Rochelle Igrisan, director of women's and children's services for St. John.
