CCHIT: Group will expand certification to specialties
EHR Connection, March 12, 2007
The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT), now a fully independent nonprofit organization, will begin certifying inpatient medical records this year, said CCHIT Chair Mark Leavitt, MD, PhD, FHIMMS, at the Health Information Management Systems Society annual conference in February.
But certified inpatient records aren't the only update coming down the pike. During the course of ambulatory product certification, commissioners at CCHIT realized that they should expand certification to specialty products--it didn't make sense to require a pediatric EMR to have the same capabilities as a urology practice EMR. Look for specialty and network requirements in 2008 or 2009.
