LifeMasters adds Popik as CMO; plans new approaches

LifeMasters Supported SelfCare, Inc., which endured a turbulent year in 2006 with the failure of both its merger with Healthways, Inc., and its Medicare Health Support pilot project, has hired former Aetna executive William Popik, MD, as chief medical officer (CMO). Popik, whose appointment was announced last month, replaces Meredith Mathews, MD, who resigned. The move to add Popik, Aetna's former CMO and currently the chair of the Disease Management Association of America (DMAA), comes after a difficult year for the San Francisco-based disease management (DM) vendor.
