Turnover rate reflects changing physician demographics

The average rate of physician turnover remained relatively stagnant between 2005 and 2006, increasing from 6.4% to 6.7%, according to the 2006 Retention Survey from the American Medical Group Association and Cejka Search.

However, the survey revealed a significant increase in turnover among male physicians and a decrease in turnover among female physicians. Turnover among male physicians was 6.8% in 2006, compared with 5.9% in 2005. On the other hand, turnover among female physicians dropped from 7.5% in 2005 to 6.6% in 2006.
