Turnover rate reflects changing physician demographics
Physician Practice Advisor, March 7, 2007
Following are the most frequently cited reasons physicians gave for a voluntary departure:
- Cultural fit. Consistent with previous reports, poor cultural fit with the group was the single most frequently mentioned reason for physicians to voluntarily leave a practice (51%). "Relocated to find a better community fit" was mentioned 20% of the time.
- Family. Forty-two percent of physicians left a practice to be closer to their own or a spouse's family, and 22% cited "spouse's job required relocation" as a reason for leaving.
- Compensation. Only 32% of respondents cited desires for higher compensation as a reason for leaving. Incompatible work schedules and excessive call schedules were each cited by 17% of respondents.
