Nurse files lawsuit against employer for firing
LTC Liability Monitor, March 6, 2007
A nurse is suing an Alexandria, VA, nursing home for wrongful termination, reported the Mount Vernon Gazette. The nurse says she was a whistleblower, alerting state officials to violations at the nursing home. Nursing home officials say her case has "no merit." The nurse was fired on the day that state health inspectors arrived at the facility and found numerous violations to resident safety and dignity. Although the suit claims the nurse was fired in "retaliation" for reporting "dangerous conditions" to the health department, nursing home officials say she was fired for "legitimate nondiscriminatory and nonretaliatory reasons," according to the Gazette.
