TMA creates committee to review rating program
E-Health Trend Watch, February 23, 2007
The Texas Medical Association (TMA) has named a committee to review Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas' physician rating system program, according to an article in the Austin Business Journal.
The association has criticized the BlueCompare system's accuracy because the system uses healthcare bills and insurance claims rather than the patients' actual medical records to evaluate quality of care.
The association has collected and categorized complaints from more than 900 physicians in Texas who question the system's accuracy and evaluation methodology. Blue Cross has agreed to delay its implementation until it receives the report from the committee.
