A new way of getting around
Healthcare Security Weekly, February 26, 2007
At one Bismarck, ND hospital, security guards are testing out a new mode of transportation. They are using a Segway, a two-wheel personal transporter to accomplish security checks of the Medcenter One facility, reported KXMB TV news.
While it may look a bit odd, the devise is helping to boost security by cutting response times. With the Segway, officers can accomplish security checks much faster. On a normal day, guards walk about 16 miles, reported the TV station. On the Segway, they can cover about 35 miles and guards can get more quickly from one place to another if paged.
Medcenter One is just testing the machines, which are already used by security officers in some larger malls and airports.
