Physician satisfaction linked to patient satisfaction

Physician Practice Advisor, February 21, 2007

Researchers have found a link between patient satisfaction and physician satisfaction, according to a study published in the January issue of Medical Care, a journal of the American Public Health Association.

Rather than matching physicians with their own patients, researchers used data from telephone surveys of roughly 179,000 patients and 37,000 physicians. They analyzed responses within geographic areas and found that physician career satisfaction was more strongly correlated with patient overall healthcare satisfaction than any other aspect of the healthcare system.

Patient trust in physicians also played a role in physician career satisfaction.
