Surgery suite uses technology to communicate and access patient information

Saint Joseph Mercy Health System has opened the doors to its $42 million, 60,000-square-foot Surgery Pavilion on the campus of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. According to an article appearing in the Detroit Free Press, some of the features of the 17 new surgical suites include
- touch-type computer systems that display digital copies of medical records and tests
- robots that can snip, sear, and grab tissue
- pass-through windows so supplies can be placed in sterilized spaces
- overhead booms that move at voice and computer command
- TV monitors that can project images to other operating rooms or departments
- anesthesiology systems that display vital signs
