Administrator gets prison time for manslaughter
LTC Liability Monitor, February 12, 2007
A former Pennsylvania nursing home administrator was sentenced yesterday to 22-44 months in prison, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Martha Bell, the former head of the now-closed Ronald Reagan Atrium I Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, was sentenced following her conviction last week of involuntary manslaughter for the death of an Alzheimer's resident. The Alzheimer's resident wandered outside into a courtyard on a 40-degree night and died. The prosecution said Bell directed employees to cover up the resident's death to make it look as if she died in bed, reported the Tribune-Review.
