Arkansas hospital uses patient simulation program
Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, February 9, 2007
Medical students and rookie physicians at Arkansas Children's Hospital are using a new technology that allows them to repeatedly perform routine procedures before they even come in contact with a real patient.
On Feb. 5, 2007, the hospital opened a pediatric simulation education center in an effort to create safer experiences for patients. The center is the nation's first to be used exclusively for pediatric medicine. Physicians, students and other medical personnel work with life-like, computerized dummies. The dummies have tools that make them "breathe" and simulate blood flow. The center also features actors who portray patients and their families to help students and staff improve their communication skills.
