Security breach at Alabama VA hospital
Healthcare Security Weekly, February 12, 2007
U.S. Representative Artur Davis (D-AL) has requested a full briefing on a missing external hard drive from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Birmingham, which VA officials say may have been stolen.
The hard drive may have contained the personal information on as many as 48,000 veterans, reported the Associated Press (AP). Davis also said he plans to introduce legislation that would set standards on the release of personal data of veterans and establish strong criminal penalties for the theft of such information, the AP reported.
