GI reimbursement would take major hit under CMS proposed rule
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, February 6, 2007
Ambulatory surgery centers performing gastrointestinal (GI) procedures could face serious financial hardship if a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) rule proposed last year is passed as written, according to a report from EndoNurse Magazine.
The CMS proposed rule would see ASCs receive just 2% reimbursement of what hospital outpatient departments receive from Medicare for GI procedures.
Physician's Endoscopy, a national firm which specializes in the development and management of endoscopic ASCs, determined its centers would see "between a 20 and 22 percent reduction in Medicare reimbursement," according to the story.
