State suspects facility delays contributed to death
LTC Liability Monitor, February 5, 2007
About 36 hours before a nursing home resident was killed, staff members decided to seek a psychiatric evaluation of her roommate, whom police say beat the victim with a metal drawer handle, reported The (LA) Times-Picayune. The facility failed to get in touch with a doctor, however. A fax request was sent to the roommate's primary care physician, but the doctor's order didn't arrive, according to the state report. The nursing home's administrator said the facility disputes the state's findings and the report is incomplete, according to The Times-Picayune.
