Former VA police officer pleads guilty to identity theft

E-Health Trend Watch, February 2, 2007

A federal court judge sentenced James Richter, a former Veteran's Administration (VA) police officer, to 30 months in prison and ordered him to pay $20,000 in restitution, according to an article in The Tampa (FL) Tribune. Richter, who resigned in February 2006 from the police force at James A. Haley VA Medical Center, stole another individual's personal data from a law enforcement database and then used the information to obtain access to credit card accounts.
