PHRs available via cell phone
EHR Connection, January 26, 2007
Cell phones and healthcare seem destined to keep intersecting, as 100,000 Blue Cross Members-and later 600,000 members-will soon be able to access their PHRs using their phones. Beginning in late March, members of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Northeastern Pennsylvania will be able to access their health information, including diagnoses, prescriptions, allergies, and immunizations, using a mobile device, reports Information Week.
The connection will be secure, and the system will send a new password to users' cell phones every time they use it. In addition to cell phones, members can access the information from handheld devices and personal computers. According to Information Week, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Northeastern Pennsylvania believes it is the first insurer to offer access to PHR data via mobile devices.
