Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, January 26, 2007

Careerbuilder.com says 17% of health care workers are unhappy with their jobs, and 21% will leave their jobs in the coming year. The data was collected in a survey of more than 800 health care workers in November and December 2006.

Thirty-six percent of health care employees say they are dissatisfied with their pay, and 26% said they did not receive a raise in pay in 2006. Those who did get a pay increase, 64% said it was a minimal one-at 3% or less. Most (71%) did not earn a bonus in 2006.

Dissatisfaction with career advancement seemed to be prevalent among the health care workers surveyed. Eighty-seven percent said they were not promoted in 2006, and 23% said they were overlooked for one. Twenty-nine percent said they were dissatisfied with the professional development options offered to them.

The survey was conducted online by Harris Interactive on behalf of CareerBuilder.com.
