Nurse disposes of own baby in hospital waste container

Healthcare Security Weekly, January 29, 2007

A nurse who worked in the labor and delivery unit at Chester County Hospital in Pennsylvania was charged by police with hiding the birth of her own daughter and disposing of the body in a hospital biohazard receptacle, reported CBS 3 News.

Detectives said the nurse kept the baby's body at her home for several days and then took it to the hospital where she placed it in a waste container. The woman said the baby was stillborn last October in the 26th week of her pregnancy.

Police said the nurse, the mother of two other small children, concealed the baby because she had financial problems and feared any medical attention would force her to miss work.
