Advocacy group 'casts' its message
Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, January 19, 2007
A California advocacy group has launched the first of five podcasts, hoping to convince consumers of the dangers of a cost-based healthcare system.
The California Healthcare Institute (CHI), which represents biotechnology, medical device, diagnostics, and pharmaceutical companies, and public and private academic biomedical research organizations, launched "Cost Over Care: The Dangers of Bureaucratic Medicine" on Jan. 11. Four more episodes are expected to be released on a semi-monthly basis.
The first episode features Dr. David Gollaher, president and CEO of CHI. Gollaher explains the concept of evidence-based medicine and why he believes misinterpretation of the term could eventually restrict patients' access to cutting-edge healthcare procedures.
