Correlation between EMRs and improved quality of care
E-Health Trend Watch, January 12, 2007
A joint white paper from the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and HIMSS Analytics, a wholly owned not-for-profit subsidiary of HIMSS, compared electronic medical record adoption to care outcomes at 107 medical centers that are members of the University HealthSystem Consortium. New research presents evidence suggesting that the implementation of advanced clinical systems, including computerized physician order entry and clinical documentation, has a direct effect on clinical quality measures and can increase hospital revenues related to pay-for-performance initiatives.
