Massachusetts looks at public reporting of infection rates

Infection Control Monitor, January 12, 2007

Add Massachusetts to the growing list of states looking to require hospitals to report rates of hospital-acquired infections (HAI).

A state senator filed legislation January 10 that would eventually require health officials to make public the infection rates for individual hospitals, reported the Boston Globe. A new health insurance law in Massachusetts also calls for mandatory education for healthcare employees and penalties for workers and facilities that don't comply with infection prevention measures, which health officials are now developing, the newspaper reported.
