Michigan considers identity theft bill

Michigan may become the latest state to require business and government agencies to notify victims of data breaches, The Detroit News reports. The bill would require notification of victims when thieves steal their

  • personal information
  • credit information
  • medical information

The state Senate approved the bill unanimously, moving it to the House. The bill requires prompt notification of affected consumers and proposes a $250 fine for each violation of the notification requirement, per person.
