South Carolina hires help for evacuation planning
LTC Liability Monitor, January 2, 2007
South Carolina's chief health agency hired a staff member to oversee evacuation plans at nursing homes during emergencies like hurricanes, reported the Associated Press (AP). But the state still hasn't come up with a way to coordinate the mass evacuation of such homes along the coast. The state Department of Health and Environmental Control brought on an employee to work with nursing homes on evacuation plans and storm preparedness. While the employee won't do the emergency planning for facilities, he will answer questions and talk to transportation providers for nursing homes, according to the AP.
