Lawsuit filed for alleged understaffing
LTC Liability Monitor, December 26, 2006
A Los Angeles law firm is seeking a class-action lawsuit against a Chicago nursing home network for having a "pervasive and intentional" history of understaffing its facilities, according to the Daily Southtown & Star of Tinley Park, IL. The complaint argues that the hours of care provided to each resident falls short of the minimum demanded under state rules. For example, according to one source, a particular facility provided its residents with a daily average of 1.6 hours of care, compared with a minimum of 2.5 hours required by the state. However, another source reports that the same facility provided just more than two hours a day per resident, reported the Southtown & Star.
