JCAHO to change name to 'The Joint Commission'
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, December 26, 2006
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) plans to change its name to "The Joint Commission" beginning in January, according to an article in Briefings on JCAHO.
A December 11 memo from JCAHO President Dennis O'Leary, MD, informed JCAHO employees of the intended change.
"This change is simply intended make our name more memorable than the current 18-syllable Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations," according to the memo, which was obtained by Briefings on JCAHO, a newsletter published by HCPro Inc.
JCAHO is also planning changes to a number of its logos.
The changes will take effect January 8.
