Employer demand for smoking cessation up
Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, December 22, 2006
Smoking is among employers' top three health concerns for workers, along with high blood pressure and obesity, a recent survey by the National Business Group on Health found.
The survey showed most employers believe establishing a smoke-free workplace is the best way to encourage smokers to quit. Meanwhile, however, 78% of employees who work at companies with smoke-free workplaces say the policy is not a motivation to quit.
That leaves many of your local customers in the market for a smoking-cessation program. According to the survey, 82% of employers said that they should take steps to help employees quit smoking.
About 500 employers and 500 employees responded to the survey, which explored understandings, beliefs, and actions about tobacco use, nicotine addiction, and smoking-cessation practices.
